Adapted by Melina Marchetta from her bestselling novel, Looking For Alibrandi is the story of 17 year old Josie Alibrandi searching for her identity through a confusing maze of Australian and bi-cultural influences. It's a voyage around her
mother, her grandmother, her first boyfriend and an estranged father.
The film was shot over 37 days entirely on location in various parts of Sydney, and after release was nominated for 8 AFI Awards, including 'Best Achievement in Cinematography', going on to win 5 AFI’s including ‘BEST FILM’. Looking for Alibrandi was a resounding hit with audiences and a box-office success, grossing over $8m in Australian cinemas alone.
